Sapporo City

Hometown of “Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo” is Sapporo City in Hokkaido Prefecture. The city is biggest city in the north of JAPAN.
Sapporo is a young city with a vibrant cosmopolitan atmosphere. It looks to the new millenium confident of offering its citizens and visitors greater prosperity and an ever-improving quality of life.
The city was born at the start of the Meiji Era (1868-1912). The name chosen was Sapporo, an Ainu expression meaning ‘important river flowing through a marsh’. Sapporo expanded until it grew to its present size of 1,121 square kilometres. The population grew too, from 313,000 in 1950 to 1.79 million today.
Sapporo’s international profile was greatly boosted when it hosted the Winter Olympics in 1972. The city now plays a leading role in numerous international conventions and events such as the Pacific Music Festival, the Northern Intercity Conference and the Winter Cities Showcase. And there is a fever of football now !!
